Demeka Reports from Germany

My Report for August and September

Things are going just fine for me here in Germany. I can honestly say that I have learned the key to a successful year. Never sit back and just 'let it be', I will determain the end result of my year here in Germany.

Monday 20, Sept., I went to my first Rotary meeting, and I meet the other two
exchange students from Mexico. They both live in another town, but we are in
the same club. We, the exchange students, are invited to another meeting on
Wednesday. This will be an informal one at a Rotarians Farm. Bar-B-Qing and
so on.On Sept. 15, I was invited, by a Rotarian, to an exibitian in the city
Padabon of a Roman Kings Castle. It was truly amazing to see some of the
exibits that were 1000 yrs. or more. You are not allowed to take cameras and so I
have no pictures to show when I come back, but I do have a handbook.

My host parents are very involved in sports. My host mother is a gymnastics
trainer and my host father is an athletic trainer. I have a host sister who is
13yrs. I keep myself involved in alot of sport activities. Tuesday's and Thursday's I play volleball on a very good team. Wednesday's I go with my host mother to gymnastics and Friday's with my 'father' to athletic training.  With the amount of meat they eat here in Germany, the excercise is very good for me.

We drove to a city called Jülich where my host mothers parents live. We spent a
sunday there. Instead of driving cars, they perfer to use the bycicle, and so we
cycled through parts of Jülich for the day. On numerous occasions my family
and I, on weekends, drove to other towns for sport compitions. Last weekend I
went to Celle for their biyearly German chapionships of athletics. This I really
enjoyed. At one competition of my school I ran 100m, shot puttand I high
jumped.

Sometimes friends from school take me, by bus, to the bigger cities. I
really enjoy these outtings. Shopping, laughing and so on. Alot of the kids can't
belive that I speak with them or accept their invitations because of past exchange students. Last year they were not very pleased with the exchange students, and so I am watched carefully to see if I would follow the same trend.  So far I've heard only good reports.

I now take German classes twice a week in a group. I am thinking more
towards private classes because my classes now are to big. There are Russians,
Arabish, Turkish and so on. I am happy that not only am I learning German but I am 'brushing up' on my Spanish.

Everything that was said to us before we left for our exchange truly has been a
great help for me. Thank you all. I am now trying to 'set up' a pen pal system
with students of my school in Germany and students of my old school in Bahamas.  I think that they can learn alot from each other. I also have some other ideas that I am working on. Depening on this year I may want to study
international relations in college.

My E-mail address still remains demekasears@hotmail.com. This is how you can
keep in touch with me.

Until my next report.

Tschüß!

DEMEKA
