MY REPORT FOR THE MONTHS OF MARCH AND THE BEGINNING OF APRIL Things are going grreat here in Germany. I've changed families the 28th January and everything is going good. It's a little different now that I am the ony chilld living here. My host brother is an exchange student in Brazil and my host sister is studing in another town. It dosen't bother me though. It's really great living with a family from Yogoslavia. Now I've been exposed not only to `German way of Life` but also theirs . My host mom and dad taught me all of the greetings in their language and my host mom gave me lots of food receipes to take home with me. I am still involved in all of my sport activities and attending German classes. School couldn't be better. I really like my school. The students assist me with my German , speaking and writing , and I give them tips on how to improve their English . I enjoy watching English films with them and translating words or `sayings´ they don't undrestand. This helps me to determin if I've made progress , in German, or not. I celebrated my 18th birthdayon the 2nd March which was one of the best days I've had here in Germany. When I arrived at school all of the students in my class and even those who weren't lined up to give me huges and best wishes. There were two other girls who celebrated their birthday the same day as me and so the day was turned into a big celebration. We received cake and had to blow out the candles while the others sang the happy birthday song half in English and half in German. The weekend of birthday I went with freinds to the annual carnival festival in Cologne. There were alot of traditional bands playing and lots of performances. I really enjoy the German music. My town is now preparing for it's famous shooting festival. I am lucky to be here this year to join in the celebration ,because it accurs every three years. The way it goes is: All of the shooting clubs in the area come together and try to shoot the head of an iron bird. The ´lucky ´ person becomes the shooting king for three years, and has to buy everyone beer. My first host family invited me to participate in the preparation which is alot of work. All of the decorations are hand made. I got excited about only heping for the preparation of this festival I don't know what I will do about the real thing. From the 6th of May i leave for 2-3 weeks for the Rotary Europe tour. I am counting the days down until we leave. Some of the countries we will visit are: Italy, Hungry, France, Check Republic, Austria, Switzerland and one or two other places. I went to Armstadam for a day and I'm planning to take another trip back. Travelling has now become apart of my life. The more I see the more I thing that I must return to Europe. Until my next report BYE DEMEKA |
