My family and best friend just recently (March 2 March 15 ) visited me for two weeks of American style touring and French style overeating. Along with my 18 boxes of Mac and Cheese, Skippy Peanut butter and other various American goodies , my mother dragged alone every email Bob White had forwarded , with the explicit intent to berate me for slacking in my responsibilty. Alors, Here I am, (after using her money to get onto an internet cite at a cyber café )trying to type up a suitable report of my whole year to date. Before I commence , in my defence , I wish to point out I have written many real letters to my magnificent Rotary of Weston. Aout: I decended the plane with two very heavy suitcases (all clothes and gifts , naturally) and found myself lost for nearly 2 hours , brinking on the edge of hysteria. My families, all three of them, along with 10 other Rotary figures had mistaken me for a flight attendant. Lucky me. I definitely learned my first lesson: Foreign phones are a voyager's worst enemy. I spent the rest of the month with friends of my mother, she was also an exchange student 20 years ago in Belgium. Septembre La Famille De Ruydts My first host family was great . There are 5 girls in the family, 2 housekeepers and two adorable parents. My school began the third and I quickly became the school puppy dog. Seriously, everyone tried to take care of me , protect me from the mean teachers, direct me in there customs, be the first to invite the American to a party and teach her how to drink( no thanks) and inform me of which guys where taken, (being that there are a total of 6 guys in the entire senior class, you can guess on how many didn't have a girlfriend hanging on their arm.) To put it simply they treated me like a 2 year old , however I wasn't complaining. Octobre My birthday was the 2nd and my host mother helped me plan a party. I was allowed to invite 10 girls to sleep over and have an additional 10 guys meet us at a local disco tech, The fuse. I had a blast and now feel so old, even though I am the youngest in my group of good friends. I paid a visit to a good friend, Daan , who was an exchange student in Florida last year, and who lives in Holland. For Halloween I was in London, Londre, with Rotex and 200 fellow exchange students. Novembre What did I do? School , letters, parties, nothing special. Decembre I had almost a complete month of vacation due to exams and then a 2 week Christmas break. I spent the holidays with my family's families. I think it was the first year I woke up Christmas morning to the faces of 34 other people, my relatives. On the 28th of the month , Stepanie, my host sister (17) and I visited my friends in Paris. Cecile, a French exchange student from Florida last year, and also my" big sister" had organised a get together for 10 other exchange students from last year. We stayed in Paris for 6 days and couldn't have enjoyed ourselves more. Janvier La Famille D'Hoop I brought in the New Year under the Eiffel Tower, with a bunch of my lifetime friends. On the 6th I switched host families. My present family is great. There are 3 boys, 18, Canada, 16 and 14; and a sister, Geraldine,20. My best friend from Zimbabwe returned home and I miss her a lot, but we keep in contact through letters. I read my first historical romance book in French. :o) Fevrier All the new exchange students arrived and I've made new world wide friends. For Valentine's Day, I lacked a boyfriend, my first time in 3 years, which I blame on chocolate and the clouds. J/k Sara, Oregon, and I did hand out cards with candy though, that excited the class because it is not a custom here. Mars My parents visited and we took a tour of Brussels to Paris to London to Amsterdam to Northern Holland and back to Belgian cities. For St Patrick's Day I went to an Irish Bar and learned to celebrate the holiday. Belgians are not much for holidays. I will write next month, since it seems a lot easier that doing it this way. Until then I change my family the 24 of April Famille robert Kappellelaan , 65 1860 Meise Belgium BE GOOD SOIS SAGE UN GROS BISOUS Nicole EMILIE Abbott |
