Sorry it took so long to write, but when i first arrived I was very sick cause of the plane ride. It did turns on my stomach and my head. Now i am fine. I am living with Sra. Isabel and Sr. Ivan Fuentes. They are very kind to me. My host mother, Isabel, speaks some English and she talks to me in English now, but she will talk to me in Spanish only next week. My host father speaks very little English. Their daughters are in the USA right now.. they are also in the exchange program. The city of Puerto Natales is very small and looks a little ancient. It is not very modern, not at all like Hollywood and Miami. But it has very beautiful scenery. I can see the Mountains covered with snow from the house. Needless to say it is very very cold....But i am adjusting. I have to wear layers of clothing. I am glad i brought a lot of winter clothes. Yesterday was my first day of school.....colegio....Charles Darvin. It is soooooooooo small. There are about 100 students in the whole school and about 10 students in my class, cuatro medio. everyone tries to talk to me in English. I had Spanish class ( they call it Castaña), Economics, and Math. To tell you the truth, it is pretty boring, but it´s only the first day. Maybe i´ll find it more interesting next week. The Spanish class was taking a test, so i sat there and did nothing. Then one of the students finished and she showed me around the school....there are only a few rooms. In math, the students are doing Geometry, but i already took that in 9th grade. In economics, the teacher (we call the teachers profer) explain to me a little about the regions of chile.
The exchange students told me that the subjects in the US schools are simple ompare to their country, but i don´t think so. The exchange student from chile also said that, but i think it is harder in the US. I am in the end of the school year and will have vacation again in about three months. After that, i will go to the University in Puerto Natales, where the master of the school is German.
I also met the other 2 exchange students, natalie and nicholas. Natalie is from Switzerland and Nicholas is from Wisconsin. They have been here for 6 weeks and speak well Spanish. I hope in about a month i could speak well in Spanish.
Today the president and the marcello of teh rotary club visited. They invited me to the rotary club for dinner next thursday. I feel safe in the house. There are guards outside the street of the house. They guard the houses of the regiment. There are usually 1 guard and sometimes there is 3.
Everyone tries to speak to me in English and i have to tell them to speak to me in Spanish.
The people are nice everywhere. We greet each othere by kissing the cheek. It is very different here.
Have to go now. Will email again soon. Qi Li |
