This is my November report. Well the month of November has been very cold here is Germany and it snowed for a week and then it didn't snow after except it was very cold and lots of wind. There has been a lot of wind that it is hard for me to ride my biketo and from school. Well I am inproving on my German. It is great to finally understand what others are telling you especially when your friends try to make fun of you. I can understand a little bit of what the teachers are saying now. I studied really hard for a physics test and I took it yesterday and I think that I did pretty well for someone who doesn't understand everything. Me and my two sisters have been practicing for a concert that we will be doing for Christmas for the whole family and for my host mother's work place. I'm a little nervous, but the Germans are all great musicians and they are not nervous people. I've finally been to the pool here and really loved it. It was an indoor pool with a big slide and my friends invited me and it was really fun. I got to practice my swimming skills. I've been to many birthday parties and met a lot of people. My host mother and my little sister have been making cookies for one week. So that week when i came from school I smelled cookies baking. The house was all decorated with ornaments. The have a holiday called Advent. You light a candle every Sunday of December. All the houses are decorated with only white lights and have pretty stars and candles on their windows, but I haven't seen any colorful lights. My host mother says that most people don't like that. We have a christmas calender and on every day of December we open one window and inside is a chocolate. We have christmas music on all the time. I am also involved in the christmas play at the church and I only have three lines to say. I am supposed to be one of the motel managers. The house always smells like incense and they put the incense inside a wood figure shaped like a mountain man and the smoke from the incense comes out of the pipe that is in the mounatin man mouth. I've been to an opera and it was in French and about the French revolution with the monestery and the nuns. I thought that they sang really good. They also put up the Altmarkt, which is the old market in Dresden. It is known world wide. It is very beautiful at night. There are many lights and little shops that sell food and christmas ornaments. There is a fairy tale setting for the kids and it looks really great. I have to feed the ponies in the morning and the afternoon on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. I have to wake up really early. I taught two English classes for three weeks and Those slides came in handy. They were very interested and I gave them peanut butter and jelly sandwiches which they never tasted and now they like except for some. They had questions mostly about fast food and if Americans are really fat. I am planning to join the choir I think that the choirs here sound really good. In Dresden on the streets there are people playing their instruments and you here christmas music everywhere. It is really great. It is really great here and I love it but I miss the colorful lights on the houses during christmas in America. Happy new years and merry christmas. I also went to a Rotary meeting and met youth from france, Brazil, Romania, Ohio, New York, Wisconsin, and Oregon. We went bowling, to many museums of cookies, wheat mill, Soverin people that live in Bautzen, and shopping, a musical and play, and a bar. It was the best time I had. Tschüss, Sabrina |
