My Report for the Month of December From Belgium Well to start off it has been a very buzy and exciting month ,well with X-mas and the New Year. And to me with the start of December came the knowledge of how to deal with snow ! but that was a wonderfully and freazing expirince . On the 4and 5 of Dec. there's a hoilday called St.Nicolas ,which is almost like Santa Claus ,but yet its not . We all drove to my host grandparent's house to spend it with all of my dads family . Even though i had the best of times and gt to know the rest of my host family very well I started to feel very homesick ( the 1st I've had since coming to Belgium) but soon afterwards I got hold of myself and was fine . Although i think that it started to snow (very hard) and the snowball fights with the family helped me out more then i can say. Then it was back to school for Exams. Which to the rest of the kids were dreding , but not me to my surprise althougth its hard to belive i was actually missing school .To the disgust of my fellow students and freinds..lol With my gym class we all went ice-skating ! ! altough it was 1°C out side and there was alot of wind , I had a wonderfull time (just trying to stand and not fall on my rump. But I finially succseded with the help of a hot looking Russin guy and that was my last day in school fot the year 1999 . Then VACTION started ! ! But with it brought the starting of the shopping frenzy that always happeneds before X-mas all over the world And to me this ment i had to start with my X-mas shopping ! And that put i small dent in my pocket , but how could it not ! Oh well i enjoyed trying to find all the pre sale and bargings in a non bargin country . But to say the least it gave us ( me and my friends ) a chance to go on a huge shopping expidtion all over belgium .Which to say the least was a lot of fun. On the 19st I had a nice ,small party for the exchange students in my city . We all exchanged gitfs and said our good byes to the guys who after spending X-mas with there host families were going home for the NewYear. This was to be the last time we're all going to be together. So evan thougth it was a happy celebration there were also a few tears. On the 21st I went to a Rotery meeting that in which Ruth (an Aus. Exchangee ) in my club was goignto give her finial big speech . Then we ( Marykate,Kan ,Cecila and me,along with Cecila's host parents ) all went to the north sea ,to a city called Kanoke to spend the night in the beach apartment and to go sight seeing . It was a lot of fun and when we took a walk along the beach picking up sea shells , we took out shoes and heavy coats off and ran in the surf. All the while the parents of Ceclia taking pictures and muturing about the crazyness of youth. (to there relief none of us caught so much as a cold ) Then it was back to my family to get evrything ready to have a small party at my other set of gandparent's home . After a fatting but delicious meal cooked by my uncle ``The Great Catering Chief ``. We opened our presents at midnight , i received a lot more than i excepted to my great surprise . I got very emotinal ,althought i tried not to let it show to me host family, i was very much missing my family at home but after a phone call to them to say Marry X-mas and a few tears i was all right ,i even joined in on the dancing . Then after a few days of rest it was New Years Eve ! ! ! To my surprise here in Belgium New Years Eve is not spent with family but with friends ,which to me is a differnet , although not a bad thing .My New Years i spent it in Bruxelles with my friends ! ! ! at the Grand Plaza and in front of the Royal Palace. Then after the count down we all went to a spanish nightclub becos it was to dangerous to stay out (lots of looneys were out )and then we all had 3 more New Years celebration ,becos with the help of Sat .TV we were all able to count down the year with our countries . Me on the phone withme family in FL. HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY and GOOD LUCK On the up coming future Sherrie Catalina Foglia |
